friction

When Friction steps up to record a mix CD these days its just not possible to please his whole fan base. For years Friction has always had more than just one edge to the music that he plays out and the music he releases on his beloved ‘Shogun Audio’ label. Friction often works at speed with his mixing and no doubt can get through a crate of plastic on 3 decks faster than most in the game but as much as this release builds atmosphere by pace it does not by any means feel rushed. To cater for two completely different sets of audiences Friction has settled with no less than a double mix album with CD 1 representing tunes to smash the dance floor and CD 2 presenting the deeper side of dnb of which right now is where Friction shows his most love.

With the selected plates that Shogun have signed in the last year you can come to the conclusion that right now deep drum and bass is becoming more and more popular. With new event nights along the south coast such as Release in Southampton bringing you headlining acts with Rockwell, Alix Perez and Spectrasoul that pack crowds of 700+ into venues explains the level of popularity right now. Some may say Shogun Audio and Critical Records (both based on the south coast) have been responsible and at the heart of operations for deep drum and bass.

Seeing that Ministry Of Sound have backed the release representing new styles is important, not only for the labels own impact on the wider industry but because they will also distribute to a wider audience. Its this pre captured wider audience that will listen and will no doubt bring the sub genre to new heights in the next year. MOS a brand name that sells is sure to introduce many new people to drum and bass with Friction at the front of the scene and representing the scene its always a good advert.

Tracks to look out for:
CD 1
The Prototypes – Cascade | Producers from the south coast that put on events in the same region under the name ‘Uni-Versal Links’, truth is if uve been to their shows, uve no doubt heard the Prototypes work in progress. Great tune which works on the basis from the vibes from live drum and bass.

Friction & K-Tee – Set it off (Icicle Remix) | Every time Friction & K-Tee get together there seems to be another smasher pulled out of the bag. A working relationship that is now recognised and approved by many that know they will always deliver.

CD 2

BCee & SPY – Nothing To Declare | SPY’s latest offerings have been setting the benchmark higher than previously before. ‘Nothing To Declare’ brings a perfect balance of ambience blended with dull bass and high ends of the kit have finesse! Placement of the vocals pushes the dimensions of the track wide and well weighted with the right frequencies.

Lenzman – Fade Away | Lenzman currently making a huge impact with his track featuring Riya, ‘Fade Away’ brings you more of the same quality with the deep bass that warms your heart like a shot of liquor on a cold night.
