Hip Hop’s grimiest duo, The Alchemist + Oh No (Gangrene), have teamed up with Roc Marciano to release ‘Greneberg’ on US label Decon this summer. The project is a feast of raw rhymes and rugged beats with each track featuring guest verses and/or production from the other two artists.
The Alchemist + Oh No (Gangrene) gained notoriety as a group with their November 2010 release ‘Gutter Water’. Their second album, ‘Vodka & Iowaska’ is already in production and will be released later this year. And with Roc Marciano hard at work readying his Decon label album debut, ‘Reloaded’ (the much-anticipated follow-up to 2010’s ‘Marcberg’),this EP is a taste of what is to come from these talented artists.
Of these three underground kingpins, The Alchemist has put down the deepest roots. He made his name making beats for the likes of Mobb Deep, Nas and Li’l Wayne, and as Eminem’s tour DJ he’s the only one to have appeared on the BBC’s Jonathan Ross show. His partner in Gangrene, Oh No, has released solo albums on Stones Throw, worked with the likes of Ghostface Killah and Redman, and is known as the biggest computer games fan in the rap world. Finally, Roc Marciano is one of the most talked-about MCs on the planet right now after condensing the essence of New York rap into the incredible self-produced ‘Marcberg’, which attracted the attention of everyone from Q-Tip to Kanye West.
Collectors will want the 6-track vinyl picture-disc while the iTunes version boasts an exclusive bonus track ‘Jaws’. To back this up, this trio are planning a joint European tour for late 2011 in support of ‘Reloaded’ and ‘Vodka & Iowaska’, which on the evidence of this EP should be fighting it out amongst the best hip-hop records of the year.
