Pictures from the night - Grooverider , TC, Verdict + House djs

Following the success of the previous drum & bass event held at The Cube featuring Chase & Status, The Scratch Perverts and Shy FX, this promised to be a good night. However, with a poor turnout, and the absence of the headlining MC’s Skibadee and Det, it didn’t quite live up to expectations.

The second room was hosted by DMU (Digital Music Underground), and delivered a mix of House & Garage. A poor sound system let this room down, and the atmosphere could have been improved with more low frequencies.

The main room, though half full, saw over 200 ravers enjoying the drum & bass vibe. After the local DJ’s Rolo and Verdict got the night underway with a fresh selection of jump-up, the atmosphere began to grow as drum & bass modern legend DJ and producer TC stepped up. A set containing many of his own productions, and some unreleased jump up anthems, shifted the atmosphere up a gear.

Key moments of his set included his switch to dubstep, dropping Caspa’s remix of ‘Where’s My Money?’ after reloading the original. He kept it at roughly 140bpm for around 10 minutes before returning to drum & bass. Towards the end of his set the crowd were hyped up and ready for veteran Grooverider to bring the night to a close with an hour of wall-to-wall D&B. A heavy set kept the crowd alive till the very end.

Even with a low attendance, the friendly student environment made this a good night, and well worth the seven pound entry fee.

Tune of the night: TC feat. Sub Focus – Borrowed Time VIP (Forthcoming on D-Style Recordings).
