On entry of the main room, my first thought was "Wow... lasers!" The lighting was how could only be described as amazing! The sound system was rocking and so were the crowd.
The night was in full swing as one of Southampton's most talented up & coming drum & bass DJ / Producers, 'Gerra', was building the vibes nicely with some dark, rolling D&B, whilst MC 'Visionobi' hyped up the ever-growing crowd. Showcasing his flawless mixing ability with an excitingly unique selection, Gerra had the crowd jumping, as he gradually built his set to a climax with some jump up.
With the crowd anticipating the arrival of headlining DJ 'Blame', this brought the night to its peak, as Blame stepped up on the decks with a hard set to follow. Having not heard Blame DJ live before, I wasn't sure what to expect. I was not disappointed...
As local MC 'Kwest' took over the mic, and the crowd had filled the room, '720 Degrees Records' founder 'Blame' begun his set with his killer remix of Robin S' house classic 'Show Me Love'. As the organ bassline dropped the crowd were on their toes, and just 16 bars later the sub-low bassline of TC's 'Game Over' was kicking through the mix.
'Blame' worked his way through every style of drum & bass imaginable, with some very fast and crisp mixing. The crowd was getting more and more excited as each record dropped, not knowing what was coming next. As the vibes reached peak level, TC's 'Borrowed Time VIP' dropped, and as the crowd were waiting for the bassline, 'Blame' double dropped it with Mampi Swift's 'One Finger'. With the ravers screaming out for a rewind, all the MC had to do was spectate.
As the set came to an end, he played his final track from the top. Instantly the crowd recognized the beautiful strings of 'Stay Forever'. The new vocal had the females singing along, and the big, warm bassline had the fellas skankin'!!!
As 3:00am drew closer DJ Danny R finished off with a nice selection of modern jump up anthems....
