Warm up DJ’s Mr. Noisy & BitR8 definitely had skills which they showcased during their mix. Varying their styles of music kept the crowd on their toes and wanting more. Mr. Noisy & Bitr8s’s track selection was awesome, playing the very best of electro, break beat and progressing to some heavy hitting dubstep. Once the dubstep had come into play and were dropped to the very demanding crowd that had filled the dance floor from the off. The scene was set and within a short period everyone was skanking hard.
A Shout out from 1 of the warm up DJ’s telling the crowd that the legendary Andy C was about to step up managed to get the punters even more hyped up than they already were. Once Andy C and GQ had battled through the packed out venue and into the DJ booth you could see that the crowd couldn’t wait any longer. GQ on the mic had the crowd live before Andy C even dropped his 1st track. Throughout the night the crowd were maintained a steady high level of energy. This was without a doubt a 100% effort by the 1 and only GQ. Last month the Underground Music attended the first ever Ram at Matter and this way already a high standard benchmark to compare Andy C and GQ to.
Watching Andy C mix is always a pleasure as he ALWAYS pulls something unexpected out of the bag and never fails to deliver an amazing set. Tonight was no different! He was playing the very best in upfront drum and bass. With typical Andy C mixes having no less than 2 vinyl’s on the decks at any 1 point and the more than occasional 3 deck mixes. Switching between the heaviest and hard hitting drum and bass to old school anthems was made effortless by this legendary DJ. Track selection again had the crowd wanting more. Every possible second he had spare Andy C tried to interact with the crowd as much as possible making this spectacle feel even more intimate and a bit more personal.
The Bang Bang team without a doubt put on a great night showing Southampton that 1 of the most house predominate clubs can host a sell out crowd for something a little bit different. With Junk club holding home to a rather impressive sound system it was always going to sound good but this did make myself wonder how it would handle the likes of dnb and dubstep. This was not an issue at all throughout the night.
There were a couple of small issues like the heat inside the vicinity just being ridiculous and extortionate drink prices which made me rate this night a little lower than I would of liked to. Not far off the flagship venues (Fabric and Matter’s) drinks prices. however It was an amazing event so this leads me to conclude 8 out of 10.
