The 2nd birthday of Southampton’s biggest and best drum & bass event, from undoubtedly the cities longest established promoter, was set to be massive, and although the turnout wasn’t quite as impressive as usual, the atmosphere was still as good as ever.
After DJ Klip warmed up the 35k sound system with Bensta providing the lyrical content, Gerra stepped up to provide his trademark dark and rolling style of drum & bass. With the night in full swing, production duo ‘Ill Logic & Raf’ kept it cool with some seriously low frequencies.
With the mellow, rolling vibes floating around the club, it was time to shift the atmosphere up a gear, as double award winning, former g-dub member, original sin introduced his set with a long exciting intro. With the crowd anticipating the drop, the kick drum fill lead to an explosion of amen breaks and a dirty synth line, before the sub frequencies kicked in. MC Foxy entered the stage screaming for a rewind and the crows were jumping.
With a set full of fresh jump-up anthems, the Geordie DJ / producer showed why he is the man of the moment, showcasing many of his own productions, each one tearing through the bass-fuelled sound system.
Bad Company’s ‘DJ Vegas’ had a hard set to follow, but he managed to pull it off, and delivered a set full of hard, techy beats, including some Bad Company classics. This was complimented by the amount of bass in the Late License Records sound system.
