Bio
DJ Gerra is an up and coming DJ/Producer from Southampton, UK, specialising in the genres of Drum & Bass and Dubstep music. Swaying towards the more Liquid/tech styles of Drum & Bass he has fast become a recognised name in the local scene through his original and tight mixing style. He has also branched out to events all across the South Coast and also national events like Random Concept and Hospitality.
Currently studying Digital Music Production BA (Hons) at Southampton Solent University, Gerra has used this opportunity to focus on a production style and is currently working on a ten-track album with a Dub concept. Dub and reggae music have been a huge influence on Gerra’s music, from production to DJ’ing and is always represented. It was at Solent University Gerra met up and coming MC, Visionobi, which he would form a long-term DJ/MC partnership with. This partnership would benefit both artists and would regularly perform together across the South Coast
Gerra’s first step into becoming a club DJ was through his residency at the weekly Drum & Bass night ‘Niteflight’ (Run by MC’s Greenie & Bensta). Some of the artists that Gerra has supported through this night include DJ Hazard, Evil B and Bryan Gee. This was a great platform to prove his skills not only on the decks but also in self-promotion. Not long after beginning this residency he was asked to warm-up for High Contrast at the long established ‘Raygun Youth’ nights at ‘The Soul Cellar’. After proving himself to a sell-out crowd he gained his second residency at ‘Raygun Youth’, which runs monthly and attracts some of the biggest names in Drum & Bass and Hip-Hop. Artists have included Logistics & Nu:Tone, London Elektricity, MC Wrec, High Contrast, Brookes Brothers and Subfocus. As well as ‘Raygun’s’ events held at the Soul Cellar they also invited the legendary ‘Hospitality ‘ to bring their brand to Southampton, this gave Gerra an opportunity not only to play alongside artists like Fabio, Cyantific and SP:MC but also play Dubstep in room 2. Now that Gerra had several bookings under his belt he was approached by different promoters, notably ‘Subculture’ which offered him another residency at the Soul Cellar. This monthly event gave him an opportunity to perform with artists such as Danny Byrd, Commix, Blame, Xample and Lomax. Other notable events that Gerra has played at include ‘Enter’ and ‘Kingbeat’ in Bournemouth and at ‘Global Energy Weekender ‘09’. Playing in the ‘Random Concept Academy’ room at ‘Global Energy’ was a great chance for DJ Gerra to play to a much larger audience as this was a national event with an attendance of several thousand. With plenty more bookings in the pipeline, this DJ is well on his way to becoming an established and successful artist in the Drum & Bass scene.
