As soon as we entered Junk there was an instant relaxing vibe with UV lights and camo netting hanging from every available roof space. Both students and locals mixed which was good to see and there was no tension between the two parties either. Bang Bang put a lot of effort into their nights and it really showed off on this one. With a well kitted out club and warm up djs that were well above the usual resident club standard the dance floor started to fill at 11pm.

Junk is the kind of club that attracts a wide audience from all different backgrounds. I put this down to the success of its regular nights and extensive promotion. If you’re a student in Southampton the first club you are guaranteed to get the know about, its Junk! The club offers two large bars upstairs and a smaller bar downstairs so there is never really a long queue to quench your thirst. Being honest drinks prices are rather pricey for students on a Friday night but if students want to party with the best then slightly more expensive drinks is a small price to pay.

By the time Kissy Sell Out reached the DJ booth the dance floor was rammed and it was almost impossible to groove right down at the front. However with the floor as packed as it was this left the bars free and some clubbers took this opportunity to get a few drinks in before Kissy started his set. Not knowing Kissy’s set up or style I was completely unprepared for what was to come. Dubstep tunes like TC’s Where’s my money were offering an alternative for all to get down to whilst tunes from Deadmau5 and Digitalism dominated. In no time at all you realized that Kissy was a bit more than just a dj but a party guy and he knows it! Within seconds he was handed a compressed air horn to let loose with and sure he did. This whipped the crowd up into a frenzy of which the Bang Bang crew also contributed to with more air horn accompaniments to Kissy’s set.

Sound at Junk is something I would say they like to pride themselves on, with the sound system offering more than enough with the dubstep and clarity with the house.
