DJ Hype, Bang Bang @ Junk Club |
DJ Hype @ Junk Club - Southampton
Although DJ Hype was one of the last names I expected to see at Junk Club’s regular Friday night (Bang Bang), the drum & bass legend attracted a venue-filling crowd. With the dance-floor rammed hours before the headline DJ, the atmosphere was just as I’ve come to expect on a Friday night at Junk, electric! Bang Bang residents Mr. Noisy and Bitr8 gave the crowd their weekly helping of everything dirty. Playing a selection of Fidget House, Electro House and Dubstep, they tested the sound system with some dangerously sickening bass.
As two o’clock approached the crowd were restless, anticipating a True Playaz style drum & bass rinse out. As Original Sin’s ‘Therapy’ (Hype’s opening track) dropped with hundreds of ravers screaming, the club was plunged into low frequencies, as the powerful drums cut through nicely.
While the security were kept busy with the ‘mosh pit’ that had broken out on the dance-floor, the vibe remained positive, with no sign of violence. The Kiss 100 DJ’s set showed why he is still one of the best, with scratching and mixing of exquisitely high quality.
The crowd refused to leave the main room after Hype’s last track, as Bang Bang’s extremely talented resident DJ’s rounded up a very successful night.
This event proved that drum & bass has come a long way, as it was not out-of-place at one of the South Coast’s most established dance music nights.
