Drum and bass fans gathered at Matter again this Friday to catch the second edition of one of the best DnB nights in the world, RaMatter. The almighty line up which consisted of Andy C, with his astounding 2 hour set, Chase and Status, Sub Focus, Goldie back to back with Break, DJ Hype, the Brookes Brothers, MC Dynamite, Hatcha, Coki and the garage legend that is DJ EZ (just to name a few) pulled in the crowds to another sold out event.

The night started off with an almighty bang as EZ smashed up the second room in style! Dropping garage classics from Shola Ama’s ‘Imagine’ to Sticky feat Ms Dynamite and more recent tracks like Skepta’s ‘Duppy’ and BBK’s ‘Too Many Men’, EZ had the whole crowd dancing well into the night. This set was definitely one of my highlights of the night, (the second being Chase and Status) and although I was a bit surprised at first to see EZ dropping in at a drum and bass night, he certainly played his part well as the second room was packed throughout the whole set. It was clear to see that everyone there was loving the old skool garage dancing and singing along to ‘Flowers’, ’21 Seconds’ and 702’s banger ‘You Don’t Know’ and is one DJ I would recommend to catch at a rave near you if you can! Coming to the end of his set, many people started to pile downstairs where Andy C was prepping for his usual three deck set.

Like every time Andy headlines an event he created another almighty atmosphere in the main room as people danced on the floor, on the stage, up on the sides and on the second floor to get a sense of what Ram is all about. His fast beats and underlying current of impending doom created a sense of what real drum and bass is and no doubt had everyone dancing amongst the amazing lighting system that Matter has to offer. The lovely thing about Matter is that the dance floor never seems too packed and there is always plenty of room to dance (unless you want to crowd around the caged DJ booth to catch your favourite DJ in the flesh, then you might get a little bit squashed!) The cage at the top of the dance floor is one place to go to check out the hundreds of fans skanking out in the club below and the sound system is immense (as I’ve mentioned plenty times before!)

Chase and Status played a little later into the night and smashed up the club with huge dubstep classics and some of dnb tunes selected off their album ‘More Than Alot.’ They kept the crowd hyped up throughout the whole set dropping grimy dubstep back to back with the latest drum and bass to keep everyone in the mood. Some of the best tunes they dropped during the set included track two off their album ‘Music Club’ with its bongo drums and fast beats. This set really was the icing on the cake for me as Chase and Status widen the scene between drum and bass and dubstep echoing some of their great work in recent years. The final track leaves you wanting more and all in all an earthquake inducing set!

Although the night had taken its toll on my legs, feet and arms already I was reserving some energy for DJ Hype who played right at the end of the night. Dropping heavy basses, an up tempo selection and a mix of hardcore drum and bass whilst one of the MC’s chanted on the dance floor crowded by true DnB fans. Other DJ’s that I heard being raved about throughout the night included Sub Focus, who played an amazing set last time, D-Bridge, Culture Shock back to back with the Brookes Brothers and Hatcha, who created some dirty dubstep in the second room.

Overall Ram and Matter have yet again come together in a unique way to create an unforgettable experience in the world of drum and bass. On this note, make sure you don’t miss out on the action on October 2nd where Ram Records will be serving up another dose of pure DnB madness for its fifth edition this year!
