Renegade Hardware @ Area
This was my first trip down to Area and what a massive night it was. I’ve been to a few Hardware nights in the past and this topped every one of them. Every one of the DJs was on top form delivering plenty of dark and dirty bass lines which was exactly the fix that the crowd needed and why they are addicted to Hardware.

The club itself is a venue that caters with three fairly large dance floors, and a brand new crystal clear sound system. Area has probably the best lighting tech I have witnessed and I’ve been to a fair few raves over the years. The main room has an installation of about 30 lasers, which is an amazing sight from the upstairs when the night is in full swing, this really adds to the full offering of quality sound and vision.

The main room is big enough for a great atmosphere but intimate enough to get up close to the DJ booth and see the talent working their magic. Just like the old Hardware nights at The End, you really feel like you’re involved and on a level with the DJ’s and the music. The great thing about Renegade Hardware, in my opinion is that they tend to move away from your typical drum and bass line-ups. This guarantees you are going to hear tunes which are just that little bit different from other more mainstream drum and bass events. Hardware nights provide you with new music and talent that even some of the biggest Drum and Bass fanatics like my self may not have heard.

One thing you will notice is the difference in atmosphere, unlike bigger commercial raves there are rarely any people there to cause hassle. People are there to appreciate the beats and generally just have a mad night with a family and almost cult like relationship.

The highlight of the night had to be the masters of Renegade Hardware; Loxy b2b with Ink. These guys always bring the roof down and tonight was no exception. They were outstanding and really pushed Area’s sound system to the limit. Deep bass tore up the club all night which could be said is Hardwares trademark and introduces new sensations to your ears. Both Loxy and Ink were bang on with their seamless mixing which built the crowds momentum up to an even faster pace. The track which then for myself topped the set was Konflict’s Messiah which also received one of the largest receptions of the night.

Top three DJ’s of the night for us were Loxy, Vicious Circle and Spor. These guys not only show their experience of selection and mixing but ability to work the crowd as well. Selection was varied well with lots for the heads to preview yet enough back catalogue to keep the majority of the crowd happy.

If you’re into less commercial sounds then I would definitely recommend getting down to a Hardware night. You will not be disappointed and feel free to check dnb forums on the internet, you will also find that Hardware nights are always well respected by the heads.
