Sound Of Guns interview
Sound of guns interview by vicky purcell at the southampton joiners by undergroundmusicuk

Sound Of Guns sit backstage at the Joiners in Southampton very excited about tonight’s show. They explain that they are just getting into the flow of the tour having just played in Brighton and Norwich. There are 19 dates on the tour with this being the 8th date so far. Tomorrow (8th October) Sound Of Guns join the The Twang as support on their rounds.

Which festivals have you played this year?
We played four times at this years Glastonbury festival on various stages. We also played main stage at latitude, Radio One big weekend, and square festival where Supergrass headlined.

How do u deal with the stress of being on tour?
We batter the shit out of each other haha, its different being at each venue, its good being on tour because each day is different. It’s strange having your whole 24 hours of a day revolving around a half an hour show. We all enjoy each others company to certain points, apart from not having much space in the van. You get tired of travelling, there’s been a lot of travelling. Our management wont book us hotels near to venues so we have to travel 2/3 hours outside of where we are playing so that we cant go out and get pissed. Little does our manager know that we get pissed before the show! We are like gypsies at the moment, but that’s why we are in a band so that we can get on the road... There’s no complaints.

Is this your first headlining tour?
We have never played Southampton before and this is our first UK headline tour. Not that headline means much , just that you go on stage last. We did a smaller tour to promote ‘architects’ our new single, that was in march, we did 10 dates, but this is the biggest tour we have done on our own .

What are your plans for after the tour?
It’s all about getting stuck into the album, getting all the pre-production done and finished, then getting on the road again. We go to Dubai on the 3rd of November for 5 dates, with the Doves and Ian Brown! Then we are going to come back and get straight into the album and finish it for the middle of December. After that we are going on a European tour to promote our new album.

What festivals are you hoping to play in 2010?
We are thinking of headlining knebworth, but we cant actually get hold of the gezzer who runs it , nah wewill just do as many as we can. We were offered a lot more festivals this year, but we wanted something we can do for next year, like Reading or a Leeds. It will be good to get on the bigger festival bills, and play to as many people as we can to just get the maximum exposure, to promote the album. We would love to go back to Glastonbury and Leeds would be good because that’s the first festival I ever went to when I was young lad, so to go back there and play would be pretty cool. Its funny because me and Andy had never been to Glastonbury , so our first opportunity to go was to play, and it was a strange experience. We don’t think we had the proper Glastonbury experience because, we got looked after as we had the backstage campsite wristbands and you get everything looked after for you. We didn’t have to put up with the mud, we had gold plated wellys ,and we got ferried round in cars.

What is your biggest sin?
Lee, no Si is the biggest sinner for his doggy facial hair, he has different kinds of moustaches which I think are quite sinful sometimes. He had a handle bar one which offended me for a while. We think he has them in some sort of flight case and whips them out, they’re all pretty bad.

That’s not really a sin tho is it?
At Glastonbury I pushed a baby in the mud.

Is that true?
Yeh the baby had some red wine that I wanted.

Can you give any gossip about your band?
Lee was with Michael Jackson when he died.

Sound of Guns have a brilliant energy on stage which can fill even the largest of rooms. When playing to small crowds they always put 100% into their performance, with loud vocals and guitars that sound as if they have been tracked several times you can now understand how that room fills. Their new single ‘Architects’ is taking them to new heights so be sure to stay tuned for the album.
