The newly refurbished ‘Bliss Rooms’ is the home of Southampton’s new monthly Drum and Bass night ‘Enter’, and after only two events ‘Enter’ has already established itself as one of the bigger players in Southampton DnB events. There are two things that make ‘Enter’ special; firstly it’s got that Friday feeling. Most DnB nights in Southampton are mid-week so ‘Enter’ comes as a welcome change, the Southampton ravers can finally let their hair down for the weekend. Being on a Friday also means loads more local drum lovers, which makes for a better atmosphere.Secondly ‘Enter’ has its fingers at the forefront of the rave scene booking the biggest and best names in the game, and tonight’s double headliner is no exception, enter; Taxman and Sigma. If you’ve been anywhere near a dance floor in the last year you’d have heard a more then a few Taxman tunes; ‘Too Bad’, ‘Scan Darker’, ‘The Circle’ need I say more. Now with the massive ‘Evasion’ EP under his belt, Taxman is one of the scenes most respected Jump Up producers, and his set by no means diminished this rep.
With Eksman on the mic, and Taxman rolling the beats, the room was already skanking hard, but then came the moment that Taxman dropped ‘Evasion VIP’ and absolute havoc consumed the room. Before anyone had a chance to recuperate the sounds of Hazard’s Taktix had all legs bouncing and all heads bobbing to the same beat. One raver shouted over “It’s well good, wicked vibes Taxman’s playing some dirty tunes, and Eksman big on the mic again!” Those who don’t know about Sigma yet, better get to know, and quick! This guy’s tunes are everything great about DnB today rolled into one; big bass, shiny vocals, sickening drops, it’s all there. Listening to Sigma’s tracks you may have thought that his set would have been on a more melodic tip. This is an incorrect assumption; Sigma’s set was full to the brim of the some of the freshest and filthiest bangers.
Hazard’s tunes tore up Sigma’s set; ‘Taktix’ was dropped for the second time in the night and received the same appreciation as the first. ‘Wicked So’ crept in and the crowd moshed as a druken MC Bensta sang along. The club stayed rammed and energised through-out Sigma’s set, it was certainly the emptiest the smoking area has ever been. Speaking to a smoker he said “Favourite tune tonight has got to be 'Suffer No Fools'. I’m well impressed with Sigma actually, thought he destroyed it similar mixing style to Andy [C] in some ways…Bensta's one of the best on south coast in my eyes. Having it large as per usual, nice to see a Jump Up crowd behaving themselves. Jump up has a bad name for itself, and it’s a shame, because it’s party music, every one was on good vibe. There’s a certain energy you get from Jump Up that you don’t get from any other type of DnB and for any of you who don’t know where the ‘Bliss Rooms’ are, it’s the new name for Ocean & Collins. The club has been split into two, with a semi-permanent division that enables the club to host two completely different events in the same night. And the sound system is definitely better these days, Eksman even noticed saying: ‘This sound systems going off!”
