On another windy winter Wednesday, Wax opened its doors to probably the biggest queue I’ve ever seen at Rhino club Southampton. Wax nights have grown bigger and bigger every week and people are starting to turn up without even knowing who’s headlining, literally, coming just for Wax, the news has spread that it’s always a banger. This paired with the fact that Nero are simply the act of the moment with previous success of joining Chase & Status's own lable 'More Than Alot records' it’s no wonder the queue snaked round Southampton’s streets. As I squeezed myself into the packed venue, I noticed that the area thats usually used as the backstage/VIP was open to create more space for the crowd and as I pushed my way through the hoards of ravers it became apparent the density of the crowd remained consistant.

A rammed venue doesn’t always guarantee a good night but it’s a good place to start and luckily tonight was represtened by high numbers that were equal to the nights quality. TTB was warming up the main room for Nero. I’ve seen TTB a few times of late and tonight he came into his own, Dubstep is definitely the way forward for this DJ. When TTB plays DnB he usually sticks to the dance-floor comfort zone however when it come to Dubstep this man effortlessly selects songs that combine grimy subs and bouncing beats, creating a real ‘feel good’ vibe.

By the time Nero stepped up to the wheels of steel and two cdjs Rhino was in a world of its own, some people were walking around making random small talk with strangers, some were skanking hard and pointing their gun fingers to the main men and others were bubbling on the spot with their eyes closed. The atmosphere of the night was amazing and truly intoxicating, it was one of those nights where the vibe overpowered the music, the kind of night where your head fills with that euphoric rush without even looking at a pill. The beats rolled on by, and merged into a seamless blanket of music, it was had to distinguish any particular tune that night as the mixing was so perfect the tracks gelled together creating what sounded like one beautifully mixed hour long track.

Rocksteady ended the night playing out to a still heaving club. Rockstaedy’s set was banging and tunes like ‘Frogs On Acid’ really had the club going off. So much so that despite the fact it was meant to finish at three, the decks were spinning till half past. At 3am when the speakers fell silent screams of ‘one more tune’ filled the room, and then for the first time that night a tune could be heard in it’s entirety, and what a tune it was. Von D’s ‘Show Me’ was a beautifully blissful way to end the night.
