Camo & Krooked - Above & Beyond

Camo & Krooked - Above and Beyond

An album that’s been long awaited from the UK scene produced by an Austrian pair of producers who have already made a name for themselves due to their previous success with releases on Hospital Records, Viper and Mainframe. The duo have released ‘Above and Beyond’ their latest offering to the world of drum and bass but also as a cheeky cross over. A product that not only appeals to the genre as a whole but some of its content is grabbing the attention of other sub genres as well.

When we caught up with Camo in Austria last month at flex his headlining slot showed us just how well he can read the crowd and deliver the right dosage of beats necessary to provide synchronized skanking. By which followed with the stage flooding with inquisitive females and everything was just about how camo liked it. In interviews Camo has expressed their production process, with Krooked producing the sounds and beats and Camo himself being the arranger and fixer for the tracks. This I feel is a great way to work as a double team as it brings the best out of each other’s abilities and saves less arguing over studio roles when each have their roles.

Back to the album and with the lead track 'Tonight' not only being the producers favourite track but the track which has seen the most radio play and attention from mainstream UK radio DJ's. Pendulum have already announced in interviews that a night won’t go by where they don’t drop at least a couple of C&K's tunes in their sets which is something any act will want if they want to be heard by the mass market! Not only Pendulum but Andy C, Chase and Status, Sub Focus and Missrepresent are all common to featuring some of C&K's latest, for love on the dance floors. Noticed that C&K deliver a high end production quickly, has in our opinion helped them no end due to DJ's looking for the freshest dubs possible and with C&K feeding this frenzy with high octane fueled productions they have made a name for themselves.

Other tracks on the album like 'You Cry' and 'Just hold on' have also received huge radio support in the UK. With backing from their label and previous associates. Our personal favorite being 'Terra' that brings liquid synths to an all out assault of drums with sawing leads, the perfect selection to build the atmosphere in a club or to represent the peak of a night. With the 14 track album bringing you a large selection of tunes it is still hard to pick out any weak tunes, proving attention to detail on each production and top selection for the album material.

Something that really impressed us here at HQ was the Only me track on the album with the NIN Reznor sample. Well worked and a very good tune for yet another track bridging the gap between the mainstream industry and D&B. Most notably artists Pendulum & Chase and Status have been exploited with this due to signing to major labels with marketing techniques that hit the mainstream directly. However its nice to see underground artists like C&K also establishing ties even if it is from samples.

Camo & Krooked certainly know what path they are taking after the release of this album as well. Only the other night we caught word of a new colab tune they have done with Friction which was showing a whole new level of colab quality from the artists. Dynamite MC has also been said to have recorded some vocals for the tune which have not yet been added but soon to finish the track off. Be sure to catch Friction or C&K asap as no doubt this will be flooding club sound systems by the end of next week.
