Dreadzone - For A Reason
Dreadzones latest free single release. One of the biggest names in the dub and breakbeat market, Dreadzone have had a few hard years. Steve Roberts helped make dreadzone who they are today and along with the rest of the band showed the Dreadzone pride everytime they played. This is no average band. These guys headline the Glade festival EVERY YEAR! They are like the Metallica of their genre and there’s no chance of changing that for a good few years!

Dreadzone are not just a band but a family who look after their own. In fact some people in their fan network were notified about this free release by personal text messages. That’s pride! So as soon as I received the text message I rushed into the office for the all important free download. Free downloads seem the way the industry is going these days. With Nine Inch Nails and other major players and major labels of mainstream subcultures releasing music for free first, it’s now spread into the further corners of the industry. Personally I believe it’s a real blessing to be handed a groups hard work on a plate for your on enjoyment and you don’t even have to pay a penny. This may not be filling the pockets of artists or labels anymore but its certainly getting their music listened to! These days it’s all about making the profits on gigs and merch but for small bands this aint so easy. There’s no doubt about there being more bands out on the circuit though compared to 10 years ago. The internet is the explanation for that which compressed the market. Smaller bands are now touring the UK and getting heard more easily, whilst major bands are suffering from album sales. Unless your in the uk top 10 that is of mainstream commercial pop crap that is placed on the shelves of tescos every week, or on something that comes with the name of “the x factor”.

So back to “For A Reason”. As soon as the track started up you hear a wonderful well balanced kit. Greg really takes pride in his recordings and I can only assume that mixing the drums was not only a pleasurable process but a long one. As with most DZ songs everything’s glued to the beat with a swing of passion and nothing but professionalism. There’s a steady groove of bass through out whilst guitars and synth mellow the track into a psychedelic vibe that you could loose a good few minutes to. “For A Reason”, has a reason to be played pretty much everywhere and im sure it will be. Its surely going to be slipping out onto the streets of Amsterdam and a tune you crack on when your cooking the dinner or seeing to the young one. I expect to be hearing “for a reason” come on in my car at sunrise because it sends out a message of happiness and new rise to the genre. Im sure the dreads are rocking that right now being on top of their game so underground music takes its hat off to this production.
