Press release – http://underground-music.co.uk/gerra.pdf
Gerra is the alias of 22 year old drum and bass/ dubstep DJ and producer Harry Hackett. He currently has Southampton tuned into every vinyl he spins absolutely smashing every booking and residency while warming up for some of the world’s top DJs. With bookings starting to come from far and wide and production projects in the pipe line 2010 is looking promising for this rising star.
Starting his musical journey as a rock drummer Gerra developed his understanding of rhythm and beat from an early age. Dub and reggae music have been a huge influence on Gerra’s music, from production to DJ’ing and is always represented. Swaying towards the more Liquid/tech styles of Drum & Bass, Gerra is fast becoming known for his flawless mixing abilities. His sets are always in touch with what the party requires because of his inside out knowledge of the music he loves. His sets flawlessly weave rhythms and always fill dance floors leaving them hungry for more. His partnership with Visionobi gave him the train of thought to run on his tracks and the pair have developed an almost telepathic understanding in the booth.
Harry Hackett has grown up in Southampton and has been the city’s best kept secret for too long. In the past few years he has racked up residencies with a number of the region’s best promoters. Niteflight at Rhino gave Gerra a starting block and the opportunity to support High Contrast at Raygun Youth allowed Gerra to step up and support some of the world’s best DJs. While studying digital music at Solent University learning the boards, where he met Visionobi, he continued to pick up bookings in and around the area with such promoters as Enter, Subculture, Rhino’s Wax. His continued work with Raygun Youth has seen him play such high profile events as Hospitality and launch a weekly radio show on shedbass.com.
Gerra’s reputation is spreading quickly and last year racked up a number of high profile bookings across the region including Glade Festival, Global Energy Weekender and One Nation. He got national recognition when he came second in last year’s nationwide Valve DJ Competition. This talented 22 year old spends his time locked in his home studio tweaking mixes. This perfectionist has kept his cards close to his chest but when he does give people a sneak of his production, public anticipation grows for his first release.
